We've been busy (as usual!) in 6th grade ELA and Social Studies, and posting blogs about all of our activities just hasn't been happening - I'm sorry! Trust me when I tell you that I've been keeping your kids super busy and super educated!
We've reviewed many reading skills and have applied them to our current novel, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. We've been working on some writing skills (modifying phrases, for one, and writing argumentative essays, for another!) and as always we've been slicing through our weekly vocab like we are a bunch of word-ninjas.
It's nearly March, which of course means that PARCC testing is coming soon - March 13th, to be precise! While we hope to finish our novel this week and do some culminating activities and writings after that, we will take a little bit of time to prep for PARCC and consider some things we haven't looked at before: how to use a video as research, how to compare multiple texts, how to write decent essays in confined periods of time.... We have a lot of awesome skills already, and with a little extra tweaking we will be all set.
Also coming up is the Science Expo, an exciting cross-curricular project that grades 6-8 take part in. Look for more information about that coming soon from Mr. Lowery!
