I honestly kind of dislike the entire first two weeks of school, but saying that out loud seems uncool. But, it's true! The first few weeks of school are long, exhausting, and kind of boring.
Case in point:
Yesterday, day 1, we spent our entire chunk of ELA time (nearly 80 minutes, mind you!) going over rules, expectations, bell schedules..., then we organized our binders and struggled with using the little paper slips tat go into the tabs on the divider pages, and we labeled folders and notebooks... So if your kid came home last night saying that school was boring, I guess I can't blame them! (Unless it was my 8-9th hour classes. If they said ELA class was boring, then they weren't in the same classroom that I was in. We were all CRAZY yesterday!)
At any rate, today promises to be more of the same - classroom rules and policies, a getting to know Mrs. Yeagle slideshow, and more organizing.
BUT! We will get our chromebooks today!!!!!
I'll be taking the 7th graders down for their chromebooks during our ELA time today. Then we will review technology expectations and rules, get logged into their email, join the ELA google classroom, and hit the ground running.
I warned a group of students yesterday that I'd be the first teacher to give them homework, and that I'd also be the teacher who gives the most homework. And to make sure that's true, there is homework today!!!
Your students will learn about text annotations today, and it will be their job to take the 7th grade ELA flyer home with them and read it over with you. It'll be annotated with marks in the margin - ask them what the marks meant and why they annotated that part of the flyer! THEN, it's their job to ask you three questions about the information and write your answers on the assignment in Google Classroom. This is great feedback for me, and hopefully it will be a good way for you to become familiar with the my curriculum and expectations.
More homework will come tomorrow, too - I'm trying to build my reputation as the meanest teacher in school!
Happy 2nd day of school, everyone! May it be less boring than the first! Ha!
