The magic show is a fun supplement to Harry Potter... and offered us a chance to practice writing thank you notes as a language assignment. We discussed how to write thank you notes that are longer than a simple "thank you...goodbye....," and we got to practice formatting letters, too.
What other magic can we come up with in 6th grade? Just wait and see! We're planning a fabulous Christmas party (cookies, karaoke, trivia...what more can you ask for??!), and the kids are making their own magic with their Greek god projects. Some of the essays have started rolling in and they're really great so far - I can't wait to check out the projects!
Don't forget that the Harry Potter project needs worked on, too, but it's not due until December 16th, so there is still time. Ask your students to see the checklist for the assignment so you can help them complete the tasks to the best of their abilities!
What's going on this week?
We'll be working on more thank you notes so we can practice that skill (just in time for the holiday gift giving season!) and continue working on applying our knowledge of sentence structures. Look for a few language worksheets (more plural nouns and some new work on possessives, too), a social studies worksheet about the gods, and at least one more worksheet over Harry Potter. We'll be wrapping up our reading of the novel this week and will finish off with an end-of the novel test (completed online!), and a showing of the movie so we can compare the two.
Hard to believe we're nearly 1/2 done with 6th grade, isn't it??!!!
